Career Article 141: Financial Basics: Shop for the Best Deal
By Tamara Dowling, CPRW
You've made your first budget, and what a shock. You've got to find ways to cut corners. The good news is there are specials and deals you can use to stretch your money a little further. Here are a few:
Many vendors you use may have special discounts that you are not aware of, such as special rates for AAA Members.
Credit Card companies and telephone companies many times will reduce your rates in order to keep you from switching to a competitor.
Dry cleaners, car washes, restaurants and some recreational facilities offer discounts on certain days or during certain times.
Buying produce or flowers at wholesale markets or farmers' markets will save you money too. And, the products may be a little fresher.
Always comparison shop at least three vendors or contractors before a major purchase or service job. The lowest isn't always the best. Make sure you're getting good value and not just a low price.
Talk to friends and neighbors, and use the Internet as a resource to find the best deals in your town.
